An Offline Document Editor That Works Without Internet

Want to keep editing on a flight or while travelling? Open your files online, try editing and exporting, then check they work offline before you go.

Prepare the features you need so a poor connection does not interrupt your work. Open files from your device and save your changes locally.

How it works

  1. Open the editor online, load the files you need, and try editing and exporting.
  2. Optionally install it on your desktop or add it to your home screen.
  3. Disconnect and check you can still open, edit and export your files. Installing the app alone does not replace this check.
  4. Keep editing offline and save your work. If you clear browser data, prepare again while online.

Why it works offline

  • Try the features you need while online, then use what your browser has saved offline. Opening files from links still needs a connection.
  • Installable PWA — add it to your home screen or desktop and launch it like an app
  • Runs anywhere — Chromebook, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android; any modern browser
  • Edit DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and CSV
  • Local files are opened, edited and converted on your device, without a document-processing server. The source code is public for inspection and self-hosting.

Frequently asked questions

Does it really work offline?

Yes, with some preparation. Open the files you need online and try editing and exporting, then disconnect to check they work. Clearing browser data may require reconnecting. Files opened from links need a connection.

Does it work on a Chromebook?

Yes. It runs in any modern browser — Chromebook, laptop, Windows, macOS, Linux and Android.

Are my files uploaded?

No. When you open local files directly on this site, viewing, editing and conversion happen on your device without uploading your documents.

Which formats can I edit?

Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX), PowerPoint (PPTX) and CSV.

How do I install it as an app?

Use the install icon in Chrome or Edge's address bar, or Add to Home Screen on a phone or tablet.

Do I need to be online the first time?

While online, open the editor and test the file formats, fonts and exports you will need. Then disconnect and verify the same workflow before relying on it offline.

Where are my files saved when offline?

Yes. In Chrome and Edge, choose a file on the first save, then save changes back to it without downloading extra copies. Safari, Firefox and other browsers download a copy. With autosave enabled, you can recover your work in the same browser. Copies stay for 7 days after the last edit or open and can be managed at /history (Saved documents). Browser data can be cleared, so save important changes to a file.

What remains after I close the tab?

With autosave enabled, you can recover your work in the same browser. Copies stay for 7 days after the last edit or open and can be managed at /history (Saved documents). Browser data can be cleared, so save important changes to a file.
